I spoke to a WSP employee about this. He told me that they recently purchased some new equipment and it has been having "Bugs" and that they are working to fix the problem. When I first heard the WSP transmissions I thought something was wrong with my receiver, sounds off freq just a bit...

Its been sounding bad since they changed the antenna on Squak Mtn from an omni to a cardiod pattern a couple years ago. They did it to protect against causing IX to Vancouver, WA area and ironically dropped the transmitted signal into most of the I-5 corridor from I-90 north significantly. Even talk-in seems bad based on all the trooper and dispatcher comments over the past year or two.

Many years ago -- the WSP had a transmitter located on top of the old Seattle DO. It covered the local I-5 well. Maybe a low powered repeater in Seattle would work better -- and still give Vancouver the protection. Squak is + 2000 feet and 20 miles east of Seattle / I-5. Any WSP Techs ????

...that a site in Seattle would seem to make more sense. Since the channel covers I90 to the pass (served by their other 155.58 sites at Rattlesnake and Stampeed Pass) and more importantly (from a radio traffic volume) the downtown Seattle-Issaquah and downtown Seattle-Lynnwood area, it has always seemed odd to use Squak (unless the cardiod pattern were pointed west-northwest rather than to the northeast). Capitol Hill or Columbia Tower would make more sense. That said, the rent is free where they are now...

I like your idea --- Couldn't King County or the City Help out and offer a downtown site ??? There might be something the State might be willing to offer the County. One good idea deserves another. MTM

I think that the "Westin Hotel" site was planned -- but never built. It would make more sence to put 155.97, 155.475 and 155.37 at the "Westin" and put 155.58 and 154.68 at another site --- in Seattle. Capital Hill, Queen Anne, West Seattle or Northgate-Roosevelt Hill. I would think that maybe the County could provide a site -- that wouldn't cost the State anything. Downtown and NOT that high to cover the I-5 underground and express lanes. The WSP at one time had a base station on 155.58 at the South Office on Pacific Highway near Seatac Airport. KLL-606 if memory is working correct.
