Could be a "confuser".

When Multnomah County first put up their system, they sent a WX channel (24/7 transmissions) on a talkgroup to confuse scanner type listeners.

This practice is also used for testing systems where techs need traffic, any traffic, for testing. Have found myself there in many cases.

For all practical purposes, I have become bored with WSP (erratic vehicle, N-bound...)

Yet nothing beats them for good reliable activity when you need to test some gear. RX only, of course!

I heard testing on 528 this morning. They said "Puyallup station 2 testing" then a few "testing 1-2-3" Does anyone know what Station 2 is?
Is it police or fire or something else?

The Story mentions Bonney Lake. I have not heard Bonney Lake on the new System yet. I wonder if Sumner will join it ? or Orting ?

Ok ok.

Quote:
Emergency agencies are not only able to communicate with each other, but also more “talk groups” or agencies are able to speak to each other at the same time. With the previous VHF system, communication was limited in the number of communications that could occur at any given moment and the number of agencies that could be on the channel.
“The traffic was such that dispatch had to wait to dispatch calls,” Frank said.

So now we can have simultaneous conversations on the same channel? Can dispatch send multiple calls on the primary dispatch channel now?

No. All they gained with the new system are more channels, encryption, and the ability to talk to on the regional systems without a patch.

Quote:
In the case of a catastrophe, like a lahar or even flooding, Puyallup would be able to talk to emergency responders throughout the state to coordinate efforts and provide a quicker response. Likewise, Puyallup would be able to communicate with agencies that are in need of emergency support.
Before those communication capabilities were not available.

So, before the system was implemented, Puyallup didn't have LERN? NLECS? MARS? REDNet?

Wrong. They still communicate on those channels, albeit through a patch now.

Quote:
Puyallup’s system alone can cover areas as far as Kent, Orting and parts of Graham, Tiedeman said.
“We have a very large footprint for the regional purposes,” he said.

Granted. I heard a PPD Corrections Officer talking on his portable from the Auburn jail last night. This system sounds awesome over a huge area.

Quote:
They also added the Bonney Lake Police Department and this fall the Puyallup Fire Department will use the system.

No, they began dispatching for BLPD on BL's VHF system- I'm listening to them as I type. I will love having FD on the TRS, as opposed to listening to countywide on the VHF.

Quote:
The 800 mHz system is a direct response to the 911 Commissions findings that first responders need to have better communication capabilities in the event of an disaster.

I remember seeing the Puyallup 800 licenses in Police Call pre-9/11. Give me a break. What's in every sentence that Rudy Giuliani speaks? A noun, a verb, and 9/11.

My .02 worth.

Next week, Puyallup will go through a tri-county test of it’s new 800 mHz dispatching system. The exercise will give Governor Chris Gregoire a chance to see the systems new capabilities when she visits the city

"You press the button on the side of the mic, talk into it, and then Officer Smith across town can hear you. Officer Jones in Tacoma can also hear you if he's on the same talkgroup."

Communications centers in Snohomish, King and Pierce counties will connect in a way never possible before.

Microwaves were invented before I was, and were in use before anyone had a trunked system.
