That probably means FM (and not SSB). Darn ... I was hoping for a SEA systems style MPT signal but that does not appear to be the case here.

Oddly enough, I was just coming here to post that I'd gotten Unitrunker to follow this system, so I guess it's not the NB one.

Caught what sounded like another MPT1327 control channel today, on 464.7375, in the Olympia area. Closest thing shows to be a SMR operator out of Oly with 3 channels licensed. Anyone south who could track it?

You've likely been here already but it appears Pacific Electronics DBA TRRCO INC. is offering leased 'Taitnet' MPT1327 service on the west side of the state:

WPTY378 / 464.73750
http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsS...ewWindow=false

TRRCO MPT feature page- there also coverage maps available.

http://www.pacificelectronicsinc.com/mpt.htm

Have you heard any traffic on either of these systems yet?

Mike

No, I was only able to do a quick band search for interesting things, no computer with me. I may head down there in awhile to try though.

The 217 MHz MPT1327 FM system is probably the old Regionet/Day Wireless system. It was built in the late 90's, but never ended up getting used too much. Sites were built from the Canadian border all the way down I5 thru Southern Oregon. There were a bunch of sites in California as well. The sites were all linked together. The system worked ok, but as I remember there was only one mobile and one portable offered from Kenwood. Of course this was about the same time Nextel Direct Connect was killing all the SMR's, so that was another nail in it's coffin. I don't beleive it was marketed very well either. Down here in SW Washington/Portland the system was never very busy. There was a garbage company on it and Interstate Wood Products out of Longview used it as well, but not much else. I have most of the freqs and site locations somewhere.

Thanks! Another person had posited the idea that the system I was/am hearing is a 5 channel SMR off Mt Constitution, but I heard nothing of the sort when I was in Port Townsend a few weeks ago.

N7RYY,
Ahhh yes Region-net....Great idea too late. Region-net was a great idea that came 10 years too late. I remember thinking that if they had been around in 1987 instead of '97 it would have made a good deal of money.

It offered AVL and pretty decent coverage the length of California as long as you were within visual of a major highway I-5, I-80, SR101 as is seemed the sites were all oriented to major highways. In the hills you were pretty much toast. Seems like you could get into Vegas and Phoenix also as optional Zone$ for an add on monthly fee.

In addition to the factors you cited for the demise to Region-net, it was a bad deal for SMR's.
IF I recall correctly, that the reseller was allowed to make the margin on the initial equipment sale
(you were right on about Kenwood 1 model of each) and part/% of the first years access fees.
After the initial year, the customer became Regionets'. It was a bad deal for SMR's.......
