CENTRAL PIERCE FIRE RECEIVES $580,330 THROUGH FEMAS FY 2007 ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTERS GRANT PROGRAM Published Date: 2/5/2008 Tacoma, WA. On February 8, 2008, the U. S. Department of Homeland Securitys Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) awarded $580,330 to Central Pierce Fire & Rescue through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG). The grant represents 80% of the necessary funds to purchase and install 800 MHZ radios on all fire department apparatus. The 800 MHZ system will allow Central Pierce Fire & Rescue to directly communicate with neighboring Tacoma and Puyallup Fire Departments, as well as enhance radio interoperability within the Puget Sound Region. This is the largest 2007 AFG awarded to any fire department in the state of Washington.
Are these supplemental radios in addition to allow them talk to other 800 agencies or will they be using 800 primarily?
