Wil, What's IIMARS? I think that it is just the county

IIMARS is the Idaho statewide 700mhz P25 trunked system (wasn't THAT redundant?)...I thought that, since they're right near the border, they might jump onboard...But then, why use someone else's system and just pay access and radio fees, when you can dump all your own money into a new system?

Mica Pk & Mt Spokane, both 5000+ peaks, are right near the stateline border and provide good coverage to the "Inland Empire" area. (Spokane & Kootenia counties). They don't really have an interops channel, as Spokane is on VHF & Kootenia is UHF. They still have to go thru the dispatchers who call the other. They don't even have a LERN patch.

As I sit here in Seattle listening to a feed out of Spokane!

I had read somewhere that Spokane PD had applied for a license for a new radio system but wasn't sure what band they were looking at. I have noticed in my travels back and forth overthere (at least once a month) that the patrol cars for the SO and PD are sporting new antennas, that look like center loaded 800 mhz style, on the roof right in front of the lightbar!

I know that STA (Spokane Transit) moved from 453 to 800 mhz trunked!

Have to program my BCT15 and do a search next time over!

The 800 is for laptops, at least they were 10 years ago when it was installed.

I was over in Spokane recently and did a search thru the 800 mhz band looking for CC's just to see what was there and came across one. After listening to it for a bit, I was able to determine that the traffic was STA. They are using it for voice now! I'll be going back in about 2 weeks and search it again and let you know what I find.

Everyone (Fire, PD, & County) are still on VHF. I'm here (Spokaloo) now monitoring.
Plus everyone, fire included, are sporting mobile PC's. I don't think WSP has them over here though, still a lot of routine traffic on 'area'.

Look at what MTM wrote in this thread and the next time you see a SO or PD patrol car, check out the antenna that is mounted on the roof right in front of the lightbar. It looks like a 5/8 over 1/2 wave 700 or 800 mhz antenna, which is new in the last 6+ months or so. I first noticed them in about May on one of my monthly trips overthere. They already have a center fed 800 mhz antenna (city's is on the trunk and county's is on the roof) for their laptop MDT's!

I will.
I'll try to snag a photo of one too and post it. Maybe someone will recognize it.
If I happen to run into someone I know who is still working for either, I'll ask.

Well I came across an SPD (Spokane) car, Re: antenna.
It had a 1/4 wave VHF, a 800mgz contraption (most likely for the data), and a hockey puck looking thing. GPS? XM? (joke).
I didn't get a photo, I was on the Kawi.

Don't joke too hard; I always installed the Sirius in my take-home units.

OK, now I've seen the antenna you're refering to.
My guess; hard mounted cell?? So it stays with the car?

Unrelated note: When I worked at Ft Lewy, they put computers in some of the patrol cars. Some of the more D.A. MP's had to view porn and run tail numbers off the aircraft landing at the airfield. They got yanked.

The porn I could see, but what was the beef with running the tail numbers?

And lo and behold, I was just in Spokane this weekend and happened to see two Spokane PD cars in a parking lot doing an accident investigation and I left my camera at home! Go figure! One of the cars was a new Crown Vic and the antenna in question is mounted on the trunk with the center fed 800 mhz antenna (for the laptop) mounted on the roof with the 1/4 wave VHF antenna. I might agree with you on the hard mounted cellphone, but! The SO has the same antenna on their vehicles and, as alike as they are, I'm sure the Sheriff and the Chief didn't get together and decide "lets all get hard mount cellphones and make sure they stay with the cars"! If they wanted to add a dedicated cellphone antenna to each car, they would have just gone to "on-glass" antennas for that and not hard mounted them to the body. I would lean toward what was posted earlier in the thread; they are part of a soon to be change in the radio system!
