Well, the problem is rather complex, but if anyone can understand it, I expect MTM to be able to get it.
Basically what they have found is that the farther north we get above Line Eh?, more signal path distortion is experienced when operating at or around 800 MHz.
Intially it was thought to be interference caused by Nextel, but it turns out the newly installed RF Barrier along the Canadian border actually affects the velocity of the RF Propagation model in place, therfore rendering the frequencies basically useless. The circular polarity of the repeater output was also being distorted, causing a Dual Tone beat frequency to occur that just wouldn't stop.
One user of the system threatened to sue because he claimed that the Continuous Tone Squelch he was hearing was going to cause cancer.
Of course this means the joke is on Nextel, as they continue to build out in this band in the area. They have had trucks running around for MONTHS trying to figure it out but they are STILL BUILDING!
Personally, I think the Canadians are taking this Homeland Security stuff just a little too seriously. As an example, I have never heard of a terrorist using RF against a Country, but according to a recent press release from the Canadian Government, they feel a significant threat from "eco-radio terrorists". Apperently they have seen a significant rise in recent "communications".
Unfortunately, this RF Barrier only works one way, so while they are seeing pretty good success at "blocking" our frequencies, their signals have actually experienced a net gain of approximately 9 db due to the Standing Wave Reflection at or near the Barrier.
This is also wreaking havoc in the northern areas of Washington and Idaho.
Apparently this Barrier is supposed to be calibrated to Line EH?, but they have had some difficulty with the test equipment they are using. Canada has mentioned that they intend to have this resolved in a month or 2. Anacortes just couldn't wait that long.
I hope this explains it.
