Anti-terrorism exercise to cause traffic congestion near McChord
Oct. 20, 2005
MCCHORD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. – McChord will hold a base-wide exercise Monday and Tuesday that will make access onto base challenging due to increased security measures at all gates.
Roads surrounding McChord may also become congested as various security measures are tested. Base officials are advising people to avoid coming to the base during the exercise unless absolutely necessary.
Movement throughout the base will be difficult during the exercise as simulated emergencies will snarl traffic.
During the course of the exercise, base personnel will respond to various force protection conditions. Neighbors near McChord may hear a variety of sirens and voices as the Giant Voice, or base-wide public address system, announces the different security levels.
The exercise will begin Monday morning and continue through the afternoon. The exercise will then pause for the evening, resume Tuesday morning and conclude Tuesday afternoon.
The base anti-terrorism exercise will test McChord’s preparedness to respond to a security breach or attack. All security threats announced on the Giant Voice will begin and end with the phrase “exercise, exercise, exercise.â€
