Anyone know what changes have been made to Key Peninsula Fire lately? I used to be able to hear the mobiles almost anywhere they went, where Im at in Mason Co. but now it sounds like they are using portables for vehicle radios here as the signals are very weak. Dispatch still sounds the same however. Im still hearing everything else I monitor just fine.

If they just went narrow band, the audio volume would appear to drop. Perhaps the base stations are still wide.

I saw a friend with a service monitor today. Signal Strength is lower as well as the mobiles being narrowband. So with that info I went and did a little looking. Yes they have new radios. But also obvious is the fact that they remounted antennas lower and replaced them with cheezy wire antennas over the higher grade ones that are still on some of the vehicles. Just looks like a low buck install to me.

Bummer. I thought they were getting an upgrade.

You might perhpas take a look here for any "recent" changes in Kitsap.

Thanks- Im actually overly familiar with operations in the Cencom part of the world and don't understand what relevance you might be referencing here. ;)

Just was looking to me that the Key Pen units got quite the downgrade compared to what they had installed before.

This is a picture of one of the recent installs. Motorola specifications for the GPS antenna is that it be 3 feet from any transmitting antenna and on a metal roof. Motorola model HAG4000-HAG4003. All their vehicles I have seen so far are too close.

Ive also been told the new radios are setting off the sirens on some of the trucks when keyed.

They have also failed to install gaskets on any of the VHF antennas. The FD has already been finding water infiltration on the new antennas. Just seems like they are building expensive callbacks into the installs.

I've heard from a guy at West Pierce that the installs have been less than ideal as well....
