Are there any stores other than Radio Shack where you can purchase a scanner?

Sadly, not many exist today. I think ABC Communications is still around, but they never have carried any new stock -- only used or consign stock. I haven't been there for a few years, so I don't know if they're still around.

There's a CB shop in Renton that used to carry scanners, but last I check (a couple of years now) -- they only had the cheapy uniden desktop scanners.

You might check Target, Fry's or Walmart. I doubt you'll find any of the 'top 10' scanners however.

Your best bet is online or Ebay if you're looking for a used scanner.

PS. If you don't mind the drive, you can go to HRO in Portland.

I remember when ABC Communications was a good shop. In the 70 and early 80's they were across the street from where they are now, it used to be a big shop. A high school friend of mine worked there.

Call HRO in Portland, If you spend more then $100 shipping is free. Plus if you order by 1:00pm and they have it in stock there at the store you will have it next day by UPS. Good Luck

P.S. Go with the Uniden Models BC246T, BC396T, BR330T [HandHelds]
or BCD996T, BCT15. These models are firmware updated by uniden and will work when 800MHz Public Safty rebands there channels out here.

I also remember the original ABC (across the street), I bought my second scanner from there. btw, the building still has the ABC sign on it as of a few weeks ago when I drove by thinking about where I might find a good deal on a scanner. :!:

Stay away from Truck City Cb in Tacoma!!!!!! They do sell scanners and the latest hot modded "git me some swang" 10m rigs for outrageous prices. I also believe they're all addicted to meth
