Interesting.

City of Lakewood is currently served by Pierce County on VHF.
That's not to say...

I was originally thinking that the McNeil site may not have enough elevation to cover Lakewood all the way to and beyond I-5, then saw this on the City of Tacoma's website, dated 3/9/06:

>>

Public Safety Radio Communications

• Interoperability:

(a) Completed Puyallup Police beta templates that tell individual radios how they are supposed to work (what the buttons do, what the channels are, what the features are, encryption keys, etc); programmed Puyallup’s Motorola and EF Johnson test radios.

(b) Completed Port of Tacoma Security radio programming.

(c) Completed Lakewood Police test template; programmed EF Johnson test radios; downloaded programming to Puyallup dispatch center consoles.

Looks like it's designed to give shoreline coverage for Tacoma Police & Fire, Lakewood police, Steilacoom public safety and Dupont Police. See this website:
http://www.region43.org/docs/800mhz/Minutes20060426.pdf

Also see here: http://www.region43.org/docs/800mhz/Mee ... 060426.pdf
Scroll to page 4.

I get tons of great info from the Region 43 website.

The FCC has granted the station license --- WQF-781 -- for communications to other public safety users. It appears that Tacoma is willing to "dispatch" for other agencies -- on this "Sub-system" which has permission to use Portable Stations "In Pierce County" as well as the McNeil Island Site.
