I am new to monitoring with a scanner and live in the City of Kent.
I have a BC245XLT and would like to monitor City of Kent government, police and fire radio activity.
Can anyone provide me with various frequencies to scan?
Also local railroad activity if possible.
THANKS

frequency 1 154.070
frequency 2 154.445
frequency 3 154.310
frequency 4 154.250

There are a whole bunch more but I cannot remember them all right now. Check the intercept frequency database.

The only VHF frequency that is active anymore is .070. The others are no longer in use by Valleycom. To monitor anything after the initial dispatch you'll have to use a trunk tracker and put in the talkgroups listed above. Fire 1 is simulcast between 38448 and 154.070 with only the dispatch traffic coming out on .070. No mobile traffic can be heard on .070.

The other thing to keep in mind when monitoring the KC/VC trunked system is that you can listen to the simulcast frequencies but there is also the site on McDonald which is stand alone and covers a huge area. Sometimes I have missed snippets of radio traffic and my assumption is because the mobile is grabbing McDonald and not a simulcast site. You basically have line of sight to McDonald from anywhere in S. King County.

Radio traffic going through a stand-alone site *should* be routed back through the zone controller and onto the simulcast system - so that the rest of the system users can hear the conversation.

Of course, I suppose if all the radios on a talkgroup are affiliated with just the stand-alone site, then the zone controller may not route the traffic back to the simulcast portion.

Perhaps Sean can clarify....

Brad.

Traffic will only be routed to sites where it is needed. If there are no units affiliated on the site, why tie up a channel with the traffic ? Just because audio is on one subsystem is no guarantee that it will be on another subsystem. Traffic and resource management at its best.
