Indian Island: Naval installation playing host to Army exercise

PORT HADLOCK -- Indian Island is again playing host to an Army exercise, bringing convoys to Jefferson County roads.

Navy officials say the road traffic won't be nearly as extensive as it was last June when the Army's massive Stryker Brigade rolled through East Jefferson County toward Fort Lewis.

This time, the Navy and Army are practicing moving munitions and equipment between sites.

Commercial truck lines traditionally move ordnance between the Bangor submarine base and the ammunition depot at Indian Island.

In this exercise, military crews are conducting the movements instead of civilians.

Small convoys of trucks pulling cargo containers can already be seen crossing the Hood Canal Bridge and traveling to Indian Island through Chimacum and Port Hadlock.

Those activities will continue through April 9, Bangor spokesman Paul Taylor said Tuesday. The convoys are avoiding peak traffic hours, he added.

I had all my convoy freqs going Thursday and Friday but no joy. Is 151.07 still used for the Hood Canal Bridge? Probably not, suppose I need one of those trunktracker things

Nope.

Bridge HT's use(s) 867.5875
Bridge to DOT/Tacoma (R) 866.6125

So can someone explain DOT's 800. I put in all the freq's for Blyn. Found the bridge always was on the above and Ferrys always on 866.1375 - I'm not saying I was hearing everything. Other strange thing many, many times when one DOT freq was active with voice there would be another DOT freq active with open carrier only.

So any of the new scanners do the State DOT system?

Washington State DOT uses an LTR trunking system that's a level beyond what any current scanners will track. "Original" LTR systems didn't have a separate control channel, but this one does - that's the carrier you're hearing. The talkgroups will usually still stay on their "home" frequencies unless things get busy, so you can listen conventionally with only the occasional data bursts to annoy you. Somebody else out there probably remembers the technical details...
