Man steals vehicle while paramedic works, then crashes into pole

Auburn Enumclaw Road (Highway 164) was closed for several hours Saturday after a stolen Auburn Fire Department ambulance crashed into a power pole.

Bad story -- but happens way too much. And who will pay to replace the Aid Car?? The offender ? The EMT's ?? The Tax payers ??? Even with Insurance -- its the Tax Payer. The term "Days Off" is used when a Police Officer racks up the Police Car -- without catching the bad guy. Every Fire District should have a policy and procedure to protect persons and property. How many Police or Fire handheld radios go missing each day?? Police officers and Firfighters are our friends. But employees need to take better care of the tools they use. Now - when needed -- Auburn and the PUBLIC will have one less tool to help save someone's life. If the EMT's would have taken the keys -- that Aid unit might still be in service.
