Anyone have the freqs for WSF? I have a couple, "WSF Admin-156.9750", "WSF Ch1- 151.0400", "WSF Ch2- 156.4250".

Only one I've heard activity on is WSF admin, and it's only used by the Captain to talk to the people on the dock while pulling in and loading.

Anyone know the channel that the crew members use to talk to each other. I've had them walk right past my car talking on the radio, I never hear anything.
I've tried scanning the preset "marine channels" and using close call and can't find it.

they use 151.040 on board use and dock operations.

Close Call is your friend.

try listening when they are about to close up, or if you use a boat late at night they also talk more, its great when they start making fun of people.

I would note that last time I was on a boat about 2 months ago I also experienced the same as you where I noticed the captain talking on what looked like a radio on the helm and didn't hear anything. However I was able to use my radios close call to pick it up, and it was just marine channel 56b or something (cant remember but it reversed to a marine channel) and they were talking to the other ferry boat.

so that could be the case, but as you stated if you didnt see them using a marine and your CC was too noisy to pick it up might try a frequency counter to see if they have a hidden com programmed.

156.975 is and has been the State Ferry primary channel for 30 years. 151.04 is used by "boat hands" for all loading and un-loading operations -- on board ship and at the docks. The Ferrys can operate on almost all marine channels but are licensed to use 156.800 and 156.450. 156.425 may or may not be a correct frequency. Try 156.45.

Shipboard switches for drills to their F3 156.425. Most of the traffic on 79A has switched to the 800 system. I get most of the traffic on 866.1375. I won't even get into VATS which you can search this site with the button on the top right of this page. Never heard the ferries on anything other than the four freqs already talked about (ya, + 16 and 21).

79A is a great place to find the whales during the summer.

Set up a radio and tell them "HEY, I resemble that comment"

Yea, I know it's an old thread....but -

My wife got a good catch while waiting for the ferry recently. Normally, they refer to 151.040 as "Channel 1" - that makes sense.

During fog watch or other drills, they've made reference to "Channel 3" - which has been a marine channel (68, I believe).

So, what happened to "Channel 2"? Never knew until now.

Recently, the Coast Guard, WSP and the ferry folks had some kind of drill on one of the boats, and they made reference to doing the drill on "Channel 2". They were trying to clarify with the WSP people exactly what channel to use, and someone said, "you know, OSCCR".

My wife's radio did not have OSCCR in it, so she could not follow the conversation...so, I guess this could be called an "unconfirmed", speculative hit. So....one could presume that they have 156.135 in channel 2 of their portable radios.

Whatever.

Nice! I've wondered that for decades. Amazing we haven't heard. I wonder if ferry employees think that 2 is 'just' for the very official WSP. I would think that they would use it for gab - some time some where.

Some WSF radios had 157.100 as channel 2 a number of years ago. No idea if its still used.
