I had a chance recently to visit the Sugarloaf Peak lookout. The gentleman manning it is an electronics engineer from NE Oregon by the name of Floyd. He's also a ham radio operator. Sugarloaf normally reports to Entiat Ranger District on Forest Net 2 (see my previous post on Fischer Fire) but sends in weather reports, etc. to Wenatchee HQ office on Forest Net 1. So he may not have had his Bendix-King portable in scan mode if he was being called on Forest Net 1 or he was otherwise tied up. I'm not positive but I think Common is what is programmed into Channel 3 of their radios -- 170.125 simplex.
