Well, when installing an auxiliary battery system, I violated my own rules (and good practices). I ran a 1/0 about 10ft to a secondary bank of batteries through a high power solenoid that's actuated by the ignition switch.

I grounded the batteries in the back via the aluminum service body.

EVERYTHING that's not factory runs off the auxiliary batteries..

Well, been having really weird glitches lately.... Fuses on ground lines blowing, toughbook dock charger turning itself off/on as if it's drawing too much power, and worst of all, my M7100 was power cycling on key up.. And... Auxiliary batteries were being woefully under charged... Weird, right?

The only thing in common with the items in question is.... They're all grounded to the truck, not the service body.

You probably already saw the issue a couple paragraphs ago, didn't you?

I should have ran a dedicated ground line at the onset.

Ugh.

Just goes to show, no matter how experienced you are, you can still screw up. The ground between the aluminum service body and the steel frame was and is shit... The ground path was not sufficient. I rectified that, but still, I hate having to redo stuff.

Luckily, it was my own rig, and the only person inconvenienced was me.

Sometimes you think you're smart saving time and all you're doing is creating more problems.
