That's kind of an interesting piece of history:

The article said that, Air Force SSgt Johnny Cash, a Morse Code operator in West Germany, was on duty and was the operator who intercepted the message stating that Joseph Stalin had died.

I have a friend who, like Johnny, spent the first years after high school in Japan with the Army (60-62). His job was to receive encoded messages in Morse and pass them along to the intelligence officers who would decode the message. He could copy 40 WPM into a typewriter. Hasn't decoded a message since leaving the Army in 1962. I had never heard what his job had been in the Army and have known him almost 50 years. For some reason, we got talking about the types of 'language' used with text messaging and its similarity with Morse Code shorthand. Interesting stuff out there.
