I'm currently considering a Remington 25047 870P Marine Magnum vs a Mossberg 50299 590A1 Mariner. Any thoughts/opinions ? I was originally looking at a Benelli M4 Super 90 but the Remington/Mossberg seem to be more practical.

My experience has been the Mossberg for some reason dents my shoulder more.
Each will have aftermarket stuff.
The 870 has been around a long time.
Mossberg safety is manipulated with thumb on top, 870 it's down on the trigger guard. Both ambi.
Doesn't look like you're going turkey hunting.
One of each.

I have a Remington 7600 in .30'06 flavor, it's based from the 870 but in rifle caliber.
I'm interested in the 870 Express-Combo, my tactical days are done and only hunt food now.

Let me know how that works from the saddle.

The M4 Super 90 is a sweet shotgun but pricey. It is semi-automatic too. :)

Remington or Mossberg are both fine. I think Remington has a bit better fit and finish but it's subjective.

Unless you prefer buying locally, check www.cdnninvestments.com for good deals on shotguns.

Both the Mossberg (500) and Remington (870) offer 6+1 shortys with 18" barrels. Seems Mossberg also offers an 8+1 (590A1) with a 20" barrel which seems more appealing for both home and light duty hunting use. I would rather have a compromise than have two. Still a tough choice as I like both brands.

...and no saddle firing for me. My spooky thoroughbred would send me flying without hesitation.

Another thought;
The short slug barrels with the sights are usually rifled, but you can buy rifled slugs.
The 'turkey' barrel should have a changeable choke.
You're looking for a zombie neutralizer.?. (given your location).

Slugs can be fun though a box of 73 caliber 3 inch magnums can leave the shooter a tad bit sore.

Fortunately there are no zombies or other undesireable demographics in my neighborhood. Wish I could say the same for the rest of SoCal. My use of a 12 gauge is general purpose, something in between a short barreled street sprayer and a long barreled trap gun. I'm not into the mall ninja wannabe thing so no poser weapons like a Street Sweeper / Striker 12.

I have an 870 Express and love it. It does an excelent job of killing birds and clays.

A nice thing about 870s is they are easy and fairly cheap to customize.

Extra barrels at Cabellas for example:

I use the 500 and have for years, mine is a older ver. Rich and you can no longer get it ... I got it back in the 80's its a Persuader Maxi-Combo 18 and 3/8 with and a 28" full chock, with a pistole grip or the long stock, 6 shot with hardwood.

I had a Generic Mossberg 500 as a house gun for several years. I would rather have had an 870, but they are more expensive. Big 5 had a mossberg on sale for $219, so I just went that route.

I've never played with shotguns much, but in retrospect I'd really hate to fire a 12-gauge inside a house. If I had to do it over again, I might buy a Saiga in 410, of all things. It sounds silly, but I think that it would suit me better.

You should 3 1/2" mag in it, put the butt of the stock to the tip of your nose and pull the trigger.

While standing on one foot on your saddle.

Drunk.

Sounds like a fun thing to try. Unfortunately the 590 only takes 2 3/4 or 3 inch.

You all do know that when they say 2 3/4 or 3 inch, that it is the size when fired after it expands and not the size before its fired, if you dont belive me messure them.
some 2 and 3/4 are 2 in a 1/4 before being fired Etc.
