What would happen if I hooked up a Moto 6 ohm speaker to the back of a 8 ohm desktop Uniden? Nuke? Strange voices? |

OK. We're talking 1880's stuff I found in the back of a chuck-wagon. |

You shouldn't have any problems if you hook up an 6 ohm speaker to a scanner that has an 8 ohm output. It should work fine. I have done it many times. |

I had it hooked for a few hours. Seems the internal speaker has a more 'level' volume output. I disconnected it. I did finally rig an antenna outside up in a tree today (for the scanner). I can hear the train guys at the Eastport depot. This old Uniden 210 with the metal case does a good job keeping out interference next to the PC. One of these days I'm going to play around with the 7900 software. |

The internal Uniden speaker sounds just as good, maybe better. We're talking old school 210xlt. |

I have one of those, with the volatile 9v memory. They were great pieces of scanner iron just like Detroit made cars that used to go 300k or more. It is the only USA made scanner I have. |

I have not seen any Motorola 6 ohm speakers (most are 3.2, or 8 ohm ), is it a comm speaker? If so out of curiosity what is the p/n, and how did you determine the impedance? If the audio from the internal speaker sounds better than I would bet the Moto speaker may be bad, it should sound a lot better. When upgrading a local fire district last year we pulled out some older 210XL's they had in the station for monitoring, and two of them had two, or three Kenwood KES-4's (4 ohm each) in parallel so the one was at 2 ohms, and the other at 1.3 ohms and they were still working just fine after several years of 24/7 operation. The AMP that Uniden used was able to handle the lower impedance. Jim |

Now I'm a tad idiot-ed. Can't remember where I got the '6 ohm' info, maybe some other equipment.
