I have a BCT15, I have hardware serial port that's feeding NMEA data INTO my computer in the car.

I also have another hardware serial port going TO the BCT15.

I wanna be able to pipe the NMEA input to the other serial port, and be able to kill it for that 1% time that I'll be programming it or controlling it, without having to plug into the front port.

So... basically, pipe data from COM1 to COM2..

NMEA----->COM1 -------> COM2

I tried Xport, but it looks like it can only create virtual ports, not forward to hardware ports.

Suggestions? The only software I seem to find is $150 (ouch!)

com0com might do it, but playing software/port pipe games is kinda silly considering you can usually get away with running a "Y" serial cable for unidirectional data that doesn't require flow control. The only other thing you would need is a small toggle switch to flip the TXD/RXD going toward the scanner to switch between receiving the GPS and programming.

I ruled out GPSgate based on previous usage.

Apparently they've added some features, including the one I need, and it's free :D

the problem with com0com (spicifically hub4com) is that it only redirects to virtual ports (into the PC not OUT like you need for programming)

as Rich said - because of flow control your stuck, make a y cable or just plug into the front cant have your cake and eat it too

anywhoo that is what I found last time I tried to do something with this and my TNC/APRS/GPS setup I just gave up and purchased a TinyTNC for the APRS traffic

I already have a TNC/Tracker, I'm splitting the NMEA from there to go into the computer for GPS nav.

yea I was using an actual TNC problem was I couldnt put NEMA and serial data from the PC to read the packet as the TNC has one COM port

I'm running the tracker2

2 ports plus a radio port.

Port A goes to the computer for KISS/packet, Port B is GPS in. There's a splitter going from the GPS unit to port B and to the computer.

Like I said, I found GPSgate to do it.

I would run a splitter, but I need to program/control the scanner when I'm not feeding it GPS data. A lot easier to click a button, switching inputs, to allow programming.

I just didn't want to have to keep plugging something in the front ;)
