Just a tip, because I'm bored. Been using dryer lint as fire starters when camping, especially winter/snow camping. Take the cardboard tube from toilet paper rolls, put a square of paper towel over one end, rubber band it on tightly. Stuff it with dryer lint as you wash clothes. When full and packed tight, run a layer of glue (I use glue sticks) over/around the top rim, put a square of paper towel over that end, rubber band it until it sets. Take the band off the bottom end and repeat the process. Burns like a mall on fire. Wife has been talking about adding pencil shavings to the mixture. Another additive I've been contemplating adding is the results from a paper shredder at work, one of those that shreds sheets into an almost sand-like product (NSA 02-01 standard). DON'T add the dryer sheets! |

Neighbor was shaving bark off pine logs to make playground equipment for his kids. I asked and took all the shavings, baked them on low heat for 20 minutes in a deep pan, then bagged them in gallon Zip-Loc bags. Thought about it, and added dessicant packs to each bag. Bought a one-pound bag of gun safe dessicant at Sportco in Fife ($8 or so), and had the wife sew up 8 small cotton bags. Filled each with 2oz of the dessicant, 6 went in bags of the shavings, the other two each went into a safe. |

I heat with wood and camp all the time, so make my own homemade starters. The past 3-4 years I've been collecting old candles and hitting up the Thrift stores (Goodwill, St. Vincent) for large candles. Found several 3-4 lb candles recently at Goodwill for $2. I save all my empty cardboard egg cartons. You can buy parafin canning wax at the store, but that's gets a little too $$$ for me. Every 6 months or so I melt down all the candles in a coffee can/water bath on the stove. Fill the egg cartons with dry chain saw shavings and fill them with melted wax. Cut up the carton once the wax hardens and in a ziplock bag they go. Work great and burn for 10-15 mins. |

Tip- if you're cycling your laptop battery overnight by letting it lapse into sleep mode, unplug the external cooling fan/mat. Oh, the battery will die... SAOAFR. |
