Navy Region Northwest plans base security exercise next week
Exercise Solid Curtain/Citadel Shield 2011 is being conducted at naval bases and installations throughout U.S. Navy Region Northwest Feb. 21-25. This includes Naval Magazine Indian Island in Jefferson County.
This annual exercise is designed to enhance the training and readiness of Navy security personnel to respond to threats. Solid Curtain/Citadel Shield 2011 is not in response to any specific threat, but is a regularly scheduled exercise, according to Navy public affairs.
There may be times when the exercise causes increased traffic around bases and severe restrictions to base access, the public is warned. Area residents may also see increased security activity associated with the exercise.
