.40 is too hard to conceal at work unless I want to wear a sweatshirt and sweat my balls off all shift.

Sooooooo...I'm going after a smaller pocket pistol. Toss up between the Kel-Tec P-32 which nobody in town carries and is not interested in getting in for me and the Ruger LCP .38 which is exactly the same size as the P-32 I'm told. Local dealer wants $299 for it.

Haven't done any research on either gun yet, just looking for discussion at this point.

Yes, I understand they shoot different size rounds....

I have an LCR in a 'tuckable' holster.
Straight shooter. Very light & +P rated.

I too was tired of carrying a full frame (Glock) weapon daily.

I think you've heard my opinion on this recently, but...KelTec never patented their product (P32/P3AT), so Ruger went ahead and copied it, then marketed the shit out of it like it was their original idea...At a higher price.

I've never had any problems with my KelTec, and I've run around 600 rounds through it- clean, dirty, downright filthy even. Never had any problems with it eating whatever ammo I throw at it either.

Hmmm...Cheaper retail, better gun IMHO, and never had any of the feed problems all the gun store commandos are always bitching about the Little Copied Pistol having.

Fuck Ruger.

As someone else someplace else (Pat to those of you who know him) states:

Quote:
I have seen enough people turned into canoes at the City Morgue from ingesting .22, .25, .32, .380's and the like, and have seen several people take near contact wounds to the body and head from .38, 9x19 and .45 and survive that i am convinced of those things involved in a pistol fight, type of gun, bullet configuration, weight and caliber are all a distant tie for second when compared to technique and mindset.

The projectiles need to go where they will make the guy leak the quickest.

Sucking chest wounds are a killer. Nice hollow point to carry it out I'm sure provides some sort of assistance in rendering movement and life useless.

Doing prelimary research, finding a lot of negative reviews on the Ruger. People say the Kel-Tec is cheap and needs to be very much broken in before relying on it. In general, seems reviews of smaller pocket "pistols" are bad all over. Surely there is gray area and "opinon" thrown in there. :horse:

Carry what you feel comfortable with; ignore internet expertise and gun shop commandos.

My personal experience: I did the much-vaunted "Fluff-n-Buff" (polishing a few metal parts) on my P-32; it seemed marginally improved afterwards. I never noticed a "break-in" period on it, other than the standard practice for a new barrel. It fits in my hand well, rides discreetly (you saw that), and is accurate enough for self defense purposes*.

*- I can put all 8 rounds on a 3x5 card at 15 yards with it. The gun shop commandos I've talked to all scoffed at this, but really? If I'm shooting a .32ACP at distances of 15 yards or greater, I have some serious problems going on that day. What's the old FBI study say? Something like 95% or greater of all "gun fights" are 2-3 rounds at 3-6 feet.

I'm calling you in a little while, answer the damn phone this time!

There's LCP & LCR.
I went with revolver 'cuz a snake round won't cycle an auto.
I hate snakes. I live in Eastern WA.
I would not purchase a Ruger auto.
Buying a pistol now-days is like buying a pair of gloves.
Whichever fits. Don't go cheap.

One last note (what we just spoke about):

Carry where it feels natural, AND where you can access it in a hurry. Ignore the "deep cover" holstering options, i.e. the Thunderwear inside-the-front-of-your-pants-not-accessible-without-unzipping-your-fly stuff, and the 5.11-style holster shirts. Go strong-side belt holster, or pocket carry like I do.

"Oh, my wallet? Yeah, here in my pocket..."

Wear it until it's second nature. Practice with it. In your AO, just go to the local hillside shooting range. Practice retention draws, close-quarters stuff. Close your eyes while in front of the target, and have someone (with her Pink Lady :bowrofl: ) blow a whistle at a random time. Open your eyes, acquire the target (point shooting or aimed, whatever you want) draw, fire, scan for additional threats, and assess the situation.

A car/truck jacking, ATM robbery, or whatever is not going to happen while you have your weapon in your hand, ear protection on, at 10-25 yards. It's going to happen while your looking somewhere else, thinking about that DOC repeater, fumbling for your keys, and looking forward to a nice ice cold Blue Boar when you get home.

Lastly, don't get hung up on accuracy at long ranges so much. Like I said, if you're engaging some asshole gangbanger at 50 yards with your .40SW or whatever, you've done everything wrong since you got out of bed that morning.

ETC, YMMV.

To summarize;
*Range time
*Practice from draw position
*Do not shoot thy foot

Oh yeah, Winter is nice 'cuz I don't have to screw with holsters.
Agreed on the pocket thing.
If I lived in Alaska I would carry a .44 or larger daily.

Joey, you should look at the link that I sent you.

You can get what you want there for less. I carry a PPKS as a back up with a old Raven 25 auto on the side. the Glock 23 with a laser max is
my main side arm, on the other side is a Ruger p-95 with a laser max Uni.

::deep breath::

Ken- you mean you carry 4 guns, daily? A .25, .380, .40SW, and a 9x19?

That's the way I read it.

I won't even get into asking about the "trunk" guns.

Jay, I'm trying. I'm trying really hard.
