So, the 700mhz AWARN system is going live up there.

“They're going to be able to use this radio whether they're in Tok or up in Barrow to assist the responders so we're not doing that relay from dispatch center to dispatch center,” said Al Tamagni Jr., AFD lead dispatcher.

Yep, true interoperability.

With XTS/L-series radios. Running 700mhz P25.

Interoperable in Barrow, where they're running 800mhz analog.

Interoperable in Tok, where they're running VHF P25 (ALMR).

Why do I get the feeling some Moto salesman is gleefully rubbing his hands together right now, and telling the kids "It's OK, go ahead and apply to Harvard...My bonus check this year may surprise us all."?

What I don't understand are the 'statewide' systems where most of the state will slowly build out only to have another 3-4 counties do their own system. Wyolink supposedly can patch its VHFp25 to smaller 800 systems like Casper and Cheyenne seamlessly which should be what happens.

On my bucket list is riding a motorbike up to AK, ride around, and catching the ferry back down to Bellingham.
I'll need to include a radio.
