Thinking bout hiking/camping/backpacking for a few days... What kind of wildlife should I expect? Anything overtly hostile? or more like deer and such? Will 5.56 and .45 be enough for self protection if I'm going off the beaten path? I don't know if there are bears and whatnot.. lol |

The Big Bad Bear does frequent those parts. He is more into "huffing and puffing" than mauling, so you should be OK as equipped. |

Capital Forest is known for spotted owls (when they are not living in Fred Meyer signs) and the elusive sasquatch. I think I would be more worried about the out of work loggers. If you hear banjo music it might be wise to lock and load what ever you are packing. A RPG some might consider as over kill but why take chances? Probably a "Pistol" would be sufficient. Technoweenie season is open all year around there  Really I would be more worried about leaving your truck unattended out in the boonies and those big rats who mess with people's property when they get a chance. Have a fun time out there. :D |

I agree, I live about 10 miles away and lots of target shooters, appliance draggers..etc Maybe take a shittier vehicle to fit in or park in a well trafficked area. DNR #10 patrols up there a lot, though. |

My 5.56 IS a pistol... *snicker*... But it'd be slung.... ![]() I have provisions, wet weather gear, etc..plenty for a few day hike in woods... And a portable for emergencies.... I just wasn't sure bout wildlife.... Sounds like I should be more concerned about the 2 legged variety instead of the 4 legged.. :( |
