These recently went in near my place for a local elementary school. Question is, cellular or data through the Puyallup/Tacoma TRS? ![]() ![]() |

i dont see a controller box for that one.. you sure its just not a remote relay from the school office or something, blip out telemetry. I am not aware of any that are TRS controlled (I can be very wrong just didnt ever see one) as for cell they are $$$ and normally have a controller box right there I would be surprised if its technical at all from the units I have worked with they are very low tech and easy to mess with, normally just a simple clock controller to a COM port that is connected to the radio relay board if equipped. (again only 2 brands I have ever seen) but that dont mean there is about 30 others that are big I would have just liked to honk at you as you were zooming in on a street sign while on a walk and yell "take a picture it will last longer" anyone seen the units Bellevue put in on 8th camera units, speaking of cooler school units |

We have the same thing out here on the arterial just to the west of me. Now I have to look and see if there is an antenna!? I figured the school had some control over them because there was never any rime or reason to the times the lights would be flashing. This year, they added the speed limit is in effect from "7:00AM to 4:00PM". |

In Federal Way we have 2 contraptions. 1 is the flashing lights, and they have a "pancake" style antenna on the control box. The latest is the speed cams, and those have 2 antennas. The pancake just like the flashy lights, and a smaller diameter but taller, similar to the MAXRAD low profile stubby antennas. |

There's a large controller box on the back of the sign itself; one on both signs at opposite ends of the block. Pics to follow at a later date. Just FYI, I started noticing the same types of signs in the Washington County (OR) area a month or so ago. Probably been there for a while but I hadn't seen them with the antennas before. I've been asking around but no one seems to know who or how these things are getting their instructions... - Chris |

normally they are just programed ON.OFF as for the antennas sometimes there is a beacon that the front office of the school can flip and it will activate them on a override type thing but thats just my limited exposure to one or two brands and models |

Tim it sounds like one model can be programmed by a paging service. The others are stand alone and programmed by key pad. I would make a guess that the black round thing on the side of the box is an antenna for the pager inside. |
