Don't know him. Good for him, I hope he gets $5 million if the city dropped the ball here.

He walked the line for us all, deserves some respect, and has a right to be heard. If the city created his problem then it should have to deal with it no matter how inconvenient or non-community based the problem is.

Cities so often place extra-human demands on those who serve, find instant fault in everything they do, fail to de-brief them after critical incidents, forget to take 'temperatures' of their personnel at high risk, pillory them in the press, keelhaul them internally, and fail to undo the damage even after the Officer proves themselves innocent- all in addition to the day-to-day insanity that is contemporary municipal law enforcement.

So when someone has a problem, who can blame the guy/gal for not wanting to step up to the plate- the city does not back them up and despite copious amounts of lip service, does not welcome them into the employee assistance program with open arms.Instead they are seen and treated as problems to be dealt with.

Can't have it both ways. Anne needs to put some big girl police chief panties on and deal with the ugly harsh realities she has either inherited or created.

Time will tell, having lost colleagues who would rather drink themselves to death than deal with their agency/employers bullshit, i have little sympathy for cities who find themselves defending tort claims due to the way they conduct business in-house.

I for one will withhold judgment on the man until all the facts are in.

This will be interesting to see how it ends.
Anne offered him a "layoff" until the interlock requirement lapsed, which he refused.
I thought that was nice, after his decision to embarrass the department and the profession after his off duty shenanigans.

What a bunch of BS, he could not do his job because of something HE COULD CONTROL. His lawer stated “This is about as unfair an employment practice as I’ve seen in a long time,” Dunn said. “The only thing I can think of that’s more unfair is firing someone who has cancer.” WRONG, you don't go to the local 7-11 and by yourself a life threatening/ending TRUE medical disease. He is a DRUNK, yes his job has a lot of stress, but if we allow someone to use that as an excuse to break the law where do you draw the line? How many laws (that he is hired to uphold) did he break the night of his drunken rampage. He belongs in jail for the hit and run, not on the streets. I'm sure he could have got help BEFORE he went out and hit someone and fled the scene. How many time do you think he has got behind the wheel drunk in the past?
