Spent a bunch of money at Ikea, REI and Wholesale Sports. Drank too much (or not enough) coffee. Shirked responsibilities, looking forward to my last week of work.

Anyone else?

I'm upgrading my shack this week. I thought I had an adequate ground outside but I don't. I'm going to chicken out though and rent an electric hammer. It'll pound a 10ft ground rod into the ground -- in about 45 seconds. ;)

In case you haven't seen this... it's pretty cool: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7h8-6mBxjnY

I like the last comment on that video "call before you pound"

I got a beam antenna from Whidby back to my QTH that was interesting travel. now time to plan the tower deployment!!

Where did you rent the hammer from? and what/where did you get the rod?

..rod

Eastside Rental (for hammer + driver (bit) rental)
Grainger.com (for rod/parts) (they have branches all over)

FYI, I'm getting the 3/4" x 10ft rod and it has to ship from CA -- so it'll take a few days to get it. When I called, he said they do have the 5/8 x 8ft rod in stock at the Tukwila branch. The 3/4 x10ft is probably overkill but what the hey. Then I'll use a CadWeld One Shot to bond the 2GA ground lead which will hook up to the ground panel. (I got a ground bus panel kit on order from Storm Copper.)

PS. You can order "will call" from Grainger and not pay any shipping. Just cost + tax.

FYI, here's what a CadWeld looks like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ah3c2ntULHI

There are different types from 1-4 wires. You have to get the right model for how many wires you're joining and which gauge wire you want to join.

Here's the final result:

Thread bump.

Went hunting today. Not much luck, as everyone in W Washington was in the woods playing loud music, drinking, shooting guns and driving like idiots. Tons of tourists as well. Saw BC plates, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, California, and North Dakota, all driving around. Lots of USFS/NPS radio traffic near Carbon River. Rangers had people pulled over left and right. I was hearing tons of names run, LOTS of convicted felons, DWLS/R, active parole/probation, warrants, etc.

You never know who's in the woods with you.
