I would like to say thanks for all of the really great replies we just took the tent trailer out for a spin around Stanwood, we have a few things to do to it but I think we will take it for a road trip this week end and see how all systems work, I have spent most of my camping time just on the ground with no tent, as I got older, I got a tent back in 1995, at this point I think that a little more above the ground sounds a bit better, not all of my parts wake up at the same time anymore, the only thing that I don't like about this is my son not seeing a night under the Stars, my Dad and us kids would take the horses out and sleep under the Stars for the weekend we smelled great and our butts hurt, what a great time you will never see these kind of stars in the city.

Yes, that's the spot. Last week I was camped about 300 ft. down the river. Little more private, but only saw 3 vehicles and 2 quads the 5 days I was camped there.

Eric, is CW still doing the June VHF on Table? We butted heads 3-4 times when he and Ronnie Radio(RIP)decided to set up in the meadow below Lion Rock when they knew I was up top. I spent 6 hours the day before digging out the road, so I could get my truck in there. Big amps, big antennas, out trumped my modest setup and low power every time.

FD was another matter, I didn't cave in so easy there. Tower, Yagi stacks, wire curtains, dipoles etc etc. I did about a dozen years up there. Put in a weeks work getting ready then it got so crowded that I had guys doing FD 300 ft. away from me. I finally gave up.

I did make the cover of QST with one of my FD pics from Table. My one claim to fame!.....LOL

I've got a great mountain-topping spot near Wilkeson I should try to make some contacts from someday soon. Just above 5000', with a great view east and west. North is blocked by the rest of the (higher) ridge, and south looks right onto Rainier.

Of course, it has it's drawbacks....Several miles of USFS roads and logging roads to get there, culminating in about a mile stretch that's more creek bed than road. Full-size vehicles NOT recommended, unless you want to go in with nice paint and come out with the brushed steel look

There's a couple of dispersed sites right around there.
I think I've ridden every road in that area.
Lots of history up in there.

Well, when I was up there as part of "Team K7CW" for 2005, that was the last time "Paul and the gang" went up there. The following year he caught a freak cold and didn't feel like doing much of anything and ran that one from home, as much as his cold would allow for anyway. That year (2006) was when Ray, W7GLF and I tried (unsuccessfully) to get up there. Just too much snow. Blasted the bus through a half-dozen piles of snow before we got to the one that was our undoing. Once freed by Ellensburg towing ($600.00 and a couple hours of rigging, winching, and unrigging) I had to blast thru two more (this time with the chains on:-)
to get to where I could turn around... the rest of the road "to the rock"
was packed with two feet of snow... You could spend 6 days digging that out with a bulldozer! So Ray and I decided to rove that contest instead.

The following year Paul went up to Prince of Wales Island and ran June from there. Don't know if Paul will "go portable" again anytime soon,
retirement has made the funds for "big Dxpeditions" less available, although having a place to operate from without huge setup is pretty easy, all he needs to do is give me a call :D

Besides Mt. Crag, Lion Rock, Starvation Mtn, etc... there is a logging landing below Poch Peak, up inside the Evans Creek ORV area off of the SR 165 just before you get into the Mt. Rainier National Park.
One can see on a clear day parts of 8 maidenhead grids, the Pacific Ocean, Oregon and Canada.......

It ended up being two nights and three days everything went great except for the fact that we are home and ready to get out right now there is something to be said about things slowing down a little, 500 and 600 worked great my laptop a HP DV9913cl with my Samsung Omnia " Verizon" got good Internet reception in the morning only very poor in day time, the G-5 was awesome. the Ramsond generator worked GREAT not very loud I could not even hear it in the next camp site or even in a idle up close in my truck http://ramsond.com/proddetail.php?prod= ... t=Inverter Generators

And don't forget the Glock 23 loaded with gold dot HP,
40 rounds, dont live home with out it.

Sounds like you have the beginning of some great times. You'll have to get away from the pay campgrounds and strike out on your own. Here's where I'm camping right now. Not bad radio reception!.....:)

Hmmm. Looks like the "bench" on the West side of Mt. Pilchuck...

I would say "number three" on my list of places to play with microwave ham gear, etc...

Attatched is my Bus up on the "Rainout Ridge" location below Poch Peak...

Well we went out this weekend, for more camping out by Squim three days and two nights, spent most of the time in the tent trailer due to to rain, and all I can say is sitting in a tin can for days on end bites, I never thought it was going to stop raining and the wind, but at the same time it was fun just my eleven year old son and me "thank God" for DVDS and the generator for the power, the generator can run for about 17 hours on less then two gallons of fuel. powers up a laptop,DVD player, sound system, cell phones, two scanners and all on board systems of the tent trailer for 17 hours not to bad.
