Mike if you were around Seattle you must remember all the local channels had their
local kids shows.

KOMO had Captain Puget

KING had Stan Boreson

KIRO had JP Patches

CH 13 had Sheriff Tex

There was also Brakeman Bill and Wanda Wanda

I am sure there were a few others but they slip my mind right now.

I found this Stan Boreson song on Youtube.....

I do remember some of the Seattle "Kiddie" MC's -- but every "market area" had their own special program MC's. Los Angeles had Sheriff John, Chucko the Clown, Engineer Bill, and Skipper Frank. But JP Patches was one of a kind.

I grew up watching him every morning, before going to school. He's a Seattle Classic.

He did an appearance/show at the Island County Fair last year. Definitely moving slowly, but his act was cool - pulling kids from the audience and having them play games onstage for "prizes". Even my teenagers thought it was a decent show.

And, if I remember correctly, the "Officer Friendly" was actually a Tacoma Motor Officer, wasn't he?

Brad.

Not sure on which agency, but I seem to remember a lot of chrome.
It was before the KZ's so I'm thinking a Road King.

An excerpt from a 2009 story in the PI:

"At Hoberg's funeral, his sister spoke about how she'd read stories to him as a kid, Michl said. Hoberg's father -- a Seattle police officer who was Officer Friendly on "The J. P. Patches Show" -- was devastated."

Perhaps there were a few different "Officer Friendlies" over the years.

Brad.
