Anyone here into camping, I have been into all my life last year I told my 11 year old son that I am done with tent camping, tired of sleeping on the ground and getting my old butt up in the middle of the night to take care of business, well my Xmass present to my self this year was a 1995 Coleman Williamsburg tent trailer it has all of the rings and bells a shower, a thetford cassette toilet two stoves a inside and outside a refrigerator and a heater, 26 gallons of water, 6 with hot water heater, we have sleeped in it in front of the house, and man o man is it nice all system work, what we are looking is great places to go camping, I will bring along my PSR-500,600 and a laptop just for more fun and run UniTrunker and see what I get, we will bring this along for power http://ramsond.com/proddetail.php?prod= ... t=Inverter Generators

So just where is everyone favorite camping spot, we are just looking for fun this summer as a single parent I go over board at times. my wife passed on 8 years ago, so at times I go overboard for my Son and this is one of those times, I hope it last for years.

It sounds like you are set up for some great camping.

There are a lot of state parks that are fun to camp at.

We have stayed out on the Washington coast but there isn't too much to monitor
when you get too far away.

There are many parks on the Oregon coast but same thing there as far as monitoring.

I too would be interested to hear of some places where camping and monitoring at the same time can be fun.

I know there are lots on here that probably have some excellent ideas. :D

We spent some fantastic time near Florence Oregon.

There are sand dunes and dune buggies there.

Located on Highway 101 just south of Florence are some places to camp and ride the dune buggies.

Honeyman State park is near by and at least one of the places in the links below have RV camping spaces. After one ride on these dune buggies and your son won't ever want to go anywhere else again. At least my son didn't. :D

It is just out on the coast from Eugene so there is something new for you to monitor.

Jeez, I can't wait to go there again just thinking about it. :D

Sand Dunes Frontier is our favorite. :!:

Wow Jay. I need a vacation! Those pictures look like a fantastic place.

One thing I should mention about the dune buggies is to wear a tight fitting hat and have one of their drivers take you out for a ride on the 4 or 6 person fast ones.
They supply goggles but if you don't wear a tight fitting stocking hat you will be brushing sand out of your hair and ears for at least 3 days after a ride on one of these babies.

It 's like going on a half hour roller coaster ride that you will never forget :chaingun:

@ Jay

dude that looks like a sweet spot to sit and fish! I am also a fly-rod man, cant take that other type of fishing!

I camp a lot, just got a new truck camper the other day, also just outfitted it with my antenna's have a doublet and a vertical for HF on it, a little mag mount for VHF. also have the gun rack for the fishing rod in the truck as of yesterday!

nothing I love more then camping and radios, this year I have plans to get a little honda 2000i that will be sweeeet

like Jay I CANT deal with state parks, no point in camping when you hear other yeahoos drunk and stupid. but I am a sucker for fort warden.

Some great places we like. Depends on how far you want to go.

Cascade Highway, place called Loop Loop. You can drive off the highway a couple of miles on good dirt roads and be toatally by yourself. Great place to play with HF radios, noise free.

As mentioned the Oregon Coast. Honneyman State Pk at Florence is just amazing, but can be hard to get into. Other parks are often nearly deserted. Great Beaches.

Up north, BC, Kinbasket Lake. Uppermost on the COlumbia is way cool place. Amazing fishing in those parts, though you will need a BC license.

I had a travel trailer once in my life by the time I spent hooking it up traveling down the road, backing in hooking everything up and then haveing to hook up again to leave and having to dump the holding tanks I figure by the time I did all of that it was just as easy to get a hotel room, I did not save that much money in having a travel trailer

for the money I was paying, I could have had a nice reesort hotel and for 20 dollars more. I had a hotel room with cable tv, hot shower, heat. I sold my travel travel trailer a year after I got it

If you head far enough up North off of SR 20 at Loup Loup summit, is a forest road which will take you to an abandoned microwave site... at the top of Starvation Mountain. Lots of room at the top for whatever you want to do, big flat slab of concrete where the building used to be, and some of the tower guy anchors and foundation remain, but little else.

Took my Green Bus up one weekend to check out the road, and the following weekend the White Bus... This was 2005, the road was freshly graded nearly to the top (Grade still parked beside the road) so no problems with vehicle access.

Not sure what you run for antennae on you monitoring setup, but during the September VHF contest (reason for trip up with the White Bus :D
I was able to point the Yagi stacks around and hear Spokane, Portland, Seattle and BC stations, so really good radio coverage generally.

Virtually any place with elevation and a "good view" will work for hearing stuff from all over the place, and with nealry an infinite number of logging landings on top of clear-cut mountains to choose from, you could never fully explore them all in a lifetime of weekend camping trips

The fly rod breaks down into four pieces then I use velcro straps across the bars on top of the 'bark busters'.
The rubbermaid was on its first and only voyage, it proved excessive.

Thanks Jay,

I keep my to-go radio stuff packed in 2 of those Action Packers.

That way I don't have to hunt for all the stuff to take on a trip.

Just grab a couple of radios and those and toss them in the car and off we go. :D

I also have a Buddipole antenna for HF & an Arrow J pole for VHF/UHF that both have their own bags.

Wow...that's slick...I've been wanting to find one of those 19 inch rack cases and mount some radios in there kind of like that.
