Like a fool, I have used an e-mail address at the comcast.net domain for over 10 years, and now I want to move on from them.

Of course, I have no way of knowing where all I have used this address.

When C-Link came by to sell me DSL, they said they had a service / website they had created that would "capture" my comcast.net e-mail and allow me to forward it where I want.

Anyone have ideas or clues on this?

They probably retrieve your mail from Comcast with POP/IMAP then forward it to your new mailbox. You might as well forward it yourself if Comcast supports forwarding.

I should elaborate further that it is my intent to cancel Comcast service.

During the C-Link sales the (very young) sales guy spoke of a website they created that "clones" the e-mail address.

I am assuming now, from what I have read, that this type of function will only work for as long as I keep my Comcast account active.

There is no way it can function without your Comcast email account being active. This is because Comcast owns comcast.net and its associated MX (mail exchange). This is why its just as well to forward it yourself.

You can have gmail answer the comcast e-mail account for you, so when your reply you can chose to send the message from your old comcast.net account, that way you can let the person know to use your new e-mail.

I would avoid a ISP e-mail account service so if/when you want to change your ISP you don't have to go through this again.

Plus with gmail you could use your own domain name if you wanted and the spam filtering is great.
