haha nice, well I do think that the media screwed him, it sounds like he did play along so he was just the butt of the story. however nut you are in a "fake cop car" sounds like he is a level headed dude and played it cool. if he was spouting off about how horrible the police were and poor him I would think different but ha. fun times.

Interesting story. Maybe a good lesson about attracting unwanted attention...

I drive a late model Crown Vic and am also a amateur radio operator. No radios or antennas as I save that for my GMC. I find it annoying as hell driving down the freeway in the Crown Vic and everybody slows down or will not pass when I need to make a lane change. My car isn't a former PD, just a grandpa car.

There are bad guys out there as they reported. It only takes one. People look at us like criminals for listening to a scanner, so when a scanner is used in a crime it puts us all in that category. I will keep my media thoughts to myself. Don Henley wrote a song about it (Dirty Laundry). Spin spin spin...

Vince.

One day I was southbound on I-5 in the right lane, doing about 50, talking on the cellphone and not paying much attention to traffic. After a few miles I found it odd that the freeway was so empty at that time of day. Then I looked in the rearview mirror and it was like a traffic jam behind me. Now mind you this was in a marked crown vic but still what the heck is wrong with people ? Its not like its breaking the law to pass me.

I used to drive a vanilla white 88 Jeep Cherokee with 4 antennas on the roof and one on the front left fender.

Im doing 65 when this little import passes me at mach 3 only to lock up apparently believing she was about to get busted. After centering back into her lane she keeps looking back at me for a bit then takes off again...

That kind of thing is why I drive a different colored Cherokee now with one covert antenna and one blacked out roof mount.

I assemble those cars... I dont want to look anything like them.

I seriously question the sanity of those who buy retired police cars.

I know, I know. "But it's been well maintained!" "It's really safe to drive" "It's very well built" "There's tons of room!"

Cops abuse the living shit out of their cars, and so do suspects/subjects along for the ride. I've had people piss, puke and shit in the backseat while transporting them. I've hosed blood, feces, urine, vomit, semen and just about everything else out of the backseats. Those things are rolling fucking biohazard zones. If you drive one, you should apply to the EPA to have it declared a Superfund site.

Vince.

Exactly why I would never buy one, former service vehicle or not.

Truthfully, I think the Crown Vics could be made to look very nice.
Think of the Mercury Marauder (which, ironically, did not sell so well).

As for the freaks in Pierce County, here's hoping they get caught very soon, and thrown in w/ Bubba.

I've once heard old police cruisers referred to as "driven hard and put away wet." Excellent maintenance record but like Wil says, the last car you'd want to buy.

Interesting article and blog nonetheless. I'll save other comments.

Yup... I called him on his B.S. .. he was later banned from OC.org.

The last time I saw his car (July) it didn't have the K9 sticker.... So it was just a car with an antenna farm.. figured he was a scanner junkie..

The 'Dodge interceptor' logo and the damned K9 sticker along with the lights in the rear deck is what sent it way over the edge.

Saw a funny one today.

NB I-5, an old SPD rig.

Where SPD places the unit number, low in the middle of the rear bumper, was the James Bond "007" logo, complete with gun.

Most NMO's were bare, but a tall UHF center loaded whip in the middle. (That was my first clue)

The middle silver band down the sides were still in place, with the word "Patrol" in what appeared to be identical font to what Seattle uses.

Finally, a security type badge on the side where SPD badge normally resides, and some stuff referring to "Housing Authority Patrol" and the name of a security company.

I'm pretty sure it is a legit security company, but the "whacker alert" went off big time when I first saw it.

Tried to get a picture while doing 70 up the freeway, but I already had lunch in one hand and a cell phone in the other. Just couldn't pull it off.

Securetrans does the Seattle Housing Authority patrol, they use old SPD cars. Listen to them on 461.300 (100.0).

ETA: Is this the same car? --> http://www.securetransecurity.com/experience.html

I decopified my SPD rig pretty good, gonna be installing a fender mount disguise antenna in lieu of the 1/4 wave that's mounted now.. It's killing the low profile... The other lo-pro's for GPS/800/UHF are doing great...

Very close, but the one I saw was no overhead lights.
They did have the narrow bar in the back window.

461.300 explains the antenna.

Guess I shoulda put down the phone, (or the beer), and snapped a shot...

Saw one today in Fremont with LED light bars and the same diagonal stripe that WSP uses, only dark red, but same style shield in the center. Some security company. I swore at it.

Did you get hazard pay? How well does 409 work for removing semen stains... Just curious.
