I just blew up the amp and my radio.. that was fast!

trying to stop ALC pumping problems I put a POT in line as the manual describes.

well that wasnt good, turns out you "dont need a ALC connection with 756 and AL80B" those are things that people only tell you after you blow up your radio and amp.

SO friday will have a trip to icom and a order for a new tube.

just posting for anyone to google... or to learn from. or to take pitty on my learning the hard way.

yea haha, I posted on the zed as well as on ameritron yahoo group - people are coming out of the woodwork with the statment "well everyone knows you dont hook up the alc on new solid state rigs"

I am baffled about this statement as I also asked on each site tips I should know with a new amp and my radio.. never once was this mentioned. also in the 756 and al80b manuals there is NO mention of this. I have no idea why the radio and amp blew, by all my knowledge a bad alc voltage shouldn't have caused this ruckus but its the only thing I did that was a change so its my only point of reference for "problem"

but of course now that I post that everything is dead people all say "well that is crazy why did you hook up the ALC"

sigh... guess that is one FUD I will be able to disperse when I elmer to others :)
