For historical contrast, the Farnsworth M500-2 incorporates the same dimensions as listed above and same feedline. However the materials are slightly different. Whereas the ASP-16 is all brass, the M500-2's 1" pipe and outer cylinder is steel. The only other differences is that the ASP-16 (When manufactured by Antenna Specialists) came with a sticker around the 1" pipe with the company logo (Stripes of Quality) where the M500-2 had an aluminum plaque on the outer 3" diameter cylinder, held in place with two small screws, indicating "Farnsworth Antenna" "Model No. M500-2" and "Serial No."

The catalogs for the ASP-16 indicate that the antenna is painted grey, however the new ones since the 1970's have been painted a greenish-grey color.

Firecracker antennas have been seen mounted to the tops of wagon wheel (ground plane) antennas, flatly mounted to or on top of electrical boxes on locomotive rooftops, dragging equipment detectors, and mounted upside down on the apexes of tunnel portals to provide coverage inside.
