I have been following the progress of a new Portland and Western hotbox/dragging equipment detector installation out on the Tillamook Branch at MP 759.7. Today it went live. And on its first day the train I watched pass by had two hotboxes.
Also, there maybe another one going in somewhere. From what I could read from across TV highway in Aloha, there is a paper on the door of the bungalow that says shipment 1 of 2. So either they ordered two bungalows and only one gets a detector goodies inside, or perhaps another detector is going in somewhere else.
**Additional info** Odd thing...the southbound log train this evening at about 7PM that had the two hotboxes did not call the dispatcher indicating that they had a defect, nor any other radio traffic indicating such. I wonder if they may have a bulletin that states that the detector may not be calibrated yet and to disregard any hotbox data.
Sorry for the slightly over-driven audio...I only had a few moments to hook up the laptop and get it ready before the train arrived.
