I know it doesn't really have any relevance to monitoring railroad activity but this sounds rather suspicious?

This is pretty bad.

Looks like a "CSS" ("Crew Shuttle Services") Chevy Suburban. CSS contracts to the Railroads to move their crews around. An article I read that covered this accident indicates it was an uncontrolled railroad crossing, and sounds like it was coming out of a small rail yard.

I knew a guy that drove for CSS for a short time.
Shit wages and erratic hours.

It looks like the contract shuttle driver crossed behind a parked train on a double main or second track not knowing another train was coming through. The shuttle drivers have a high turnover rate at 9 bucks an hour, so experience is not always gained and the crew was probably tired after 8-12 hours on the road and not able to warn in time.

Wasn't there a member here that was a driver for them? He was at Mark's during WTO...?

Didn't Bob Gehri (Smith) drive for them or was it another company that did the same thing?

Wow, you're going back in time. Yes Bob drove for Crew Scuttle probably in the late 90's when I used to hang around the Van depot. Haven't seen him lately, maybe he still drives for them. I think the name down there has changed to Coach America or something similar.

I see both CSS & Coach America rigs in this (Seattle) area.
