Makes me wonder about the data link between the distributed power. When SP tried it they used Locotrol, looks like it's still around: GE web: http://www.getransportation.com/na/en/locotrol.html http://ge.ecomagination.com/products/locotrol.html and a fancy say nothing flyer: http://transportation.northwestern.edu/ ... ol2004.pdf "LOCOTROL uses a radio link to provide remote control of up to four remote locomotives." For the comms, no idea. This may be something: http://www.getransportation.com/na/en/12rseriesradio.html "The 12R Series II RC for transit rail is intended for remote control applications where control is by standard AAR format. It contains AAR-compatible connectors and pin assignments for universal remote control system interface." Which would imply it's in the VHF AAR band. IIRC BN tried this at one time over Stevens Pass with mixed results. Seem to remember the crews were less than impressed (expected) an the tunnel was an issue. Seems they would at least use some kind of encrypton at and a secure LPI link would be better. de KG7OI |

The tunnels including Stampede do have DPU and EOT repeaters. The el Locotrol of the 60's wasn't as perfected as what is around today. |
