The TV series that was envisioned and produced by R. A. Cinader -- for Jack Webbs -- Mark VII Production Company -- about the "Paramedics" of the Los Angeles County Fire Dept. (LACoFire) has always been one of my favorite TV programs. But "Emergency" is Brian Preston's number one TV show. I was happy to give Brian the tour of where they filmed the TV series. "Station 51" was not yet a real LACoFire Station back when the show was filmed (1972 - 1978). That's why they used station number 51. They did however use real Station 127 (KJD-880) located in the city of Carson. The TV program used call sign "KMG-365" which is the real call sign of LACoFire Station 98 - one of two fire stations located in the city of Bellflower. (Thomas Brothers Map - Page 736 C3). The master LACoFire Call sign is KMG941 located at 1320 N Eastern Ave -- in the East LA area. This location is the LACoFire Dispatch Center as pictured on the TV show. "Rampart General Hospital" is really the Harbor-UCLA Med Center -- AKA: Harbor General -- located at 1000 W Carson St - Carson. Hears call: KLY-904 + KUQ-638. Fire Station 127 has now been closed and is now the Robert A. Cinader Memorial Fire Museum, located at 2049 E 223rd St. (TBM 764 H7). Both station 127 and station 36 - which is located just down the street at 127 W 223rd St (TBM 764 G7) were built on the same design and look almost alike. But it was Fire station 127 that was used in the TV series. If you ever watch "Emergency" on TVland or RTV -- listen for fire calls dispatching stations 36, 98, 127 as well as "51". "Emergency" was also filmed on the Universal lots -- in Universal City where LACoFire had Fire station 60 to protect the movie studio. In 1984 station 60 was changed to Fire station 51. (WQV-972) Located at 3600 Lankershim Blvd on the Studio Lot (TBM 563 B6). In 1972 - LACoFire used the VHF band channels: (F-1) 154.43 - The entire LA Basin, (F-2) 154.34 - San Gabrial Valley - (F-3) 154.40 - North and West County. By the early 1980's LACoFire added 12 - "Blue (UHF) Channels" as dispatch and operations and the older VHF channels became "Fire Tac" channels. All of the fire station licenses on 154.43 all remain valid today. KMG-365 lives on. For a complete listing of LACoFire Radio Channels -- including a list of station alert tones -- go to:
http://lacountyfire.net/Radio_Dept.php . Blue 8 is now the Countywide dispatch channel, Tac-25 & Tac-26 are to Southbay Regional Dispatch and Tac-27 to Tac-32 are Long Beach FD (F-1) - (F-6).
