I haven't been able to receive anything on my town (Southington, Ct.) police dispatch frequency for about a week now....Can they block it, are there any options. I miss whats happening in town.
UPDATE ~ I just found out in our newspaper today that the P.D. upgraded their radio communications from a analog to a
digital signal. I being New to this, Does that mean I have to use a digital scanner. I presently have a Bearcat 200XLt that's analog. Is it now obsolete & will I need to buy a digital scanner? Any Help would be Greatly Appreciated.
Regards,
Frank

Yes you will need a P25 digital scanner. Get one that can handle P25 Phase 2.

O.K. I just bought A Uniden BCD 325P2 Scanner (will It work for me w/ the new digital Southington Ct. P.D. system? How would you rate it as a unit ? Was a bit pricey...
I have another question, I looked up the Southington Ct. Police Dispatch for it's "new" digital frequency & it's still the same (155.250 ) as when I was using my analog unit. Is this the same # to use for there "new" digital system upgrade or am I missing something ?? This is what I just looked up for there freq. #'s are they just digital now ??? There still the same #'s as before....

Frank

I have the BCD325P2 and it works good on local P25 systems. It programs easily with FreeScan. Try programming the frequencies and setting the mode to P25 digital. Hopefully they are not encrypting their digital traffic.

Thanks Again Rich.
GREAT !! I should be receiving the unit in a few days. My old unit programmed manually & from what I see now this one involves a computer down load. I looked at that FreeScan link & as you say it seems that it will be easy to program. I'll be trying what you told me w/ Freescan once I receive the unit w/ the units instructions & let you know how it goes... Your help & reply was Greatly Appreciated !

Hello,
I'm having a Problem w/ programing ...I downloaded Freescan version 2.8 beta 6 & got my Frequency Info.
Southington, CT. 06489
Frequency 155.25000 License: KCA347 Type: RM Tone: 131 NAC Alpha Tag: Southing PD1
Description: Police Dispatch Mode: P25 Tag: Law Dispatch

On Freescan
I entered :
1) New Sysyem
2) Sys.- entered # 1
3) Type- entered P25 std. - there is one other P25 options thou. ??
4) Group- entered Hartford County
5) Quick Key- entered # 0
6) Display- entered Southington PD
7) TG.ID- entered 115.25000
8) Number Tag- entered None
Then entered Upload to scanner & it seems Like it went through...But unit says No scanning available. So I Don't Know...I didn't have the tone 131 NAC info. at that time so I left it blank. I'm going to go back & try again entering it this time... There Seems to be ALOT of stuff to look up & Enter for this. I'm on 2 web pg.s trying to do this (FreeScan & " Easier to Read BCD325P2 Digital Scanner Manual "Got myself Lost a few times... Any help would be Greatly Appreciated

Update:
I posted this ~ "Exact Message" ~ on their PC Software - Freescan Forum just trying to get a little help there too & I couldn't believe "They" edited " MY " last sentence !! to: "Got my self lacking the ability to read the manual, countless posts, search or do anything else other than to ask for handholding a few times." Any help would be Greatly Appreciated.
WTF...Seems help is lacking there presently & their system is compromised/hacked....On there Own Forum! I did report it on their Administrator link for "Abuse" & have yet too receive a reply.( I'll give them a few more days to reply then cut my ties w/them if I don't ) I said "I think someone there has to much time on their hands." in my comment sent there.... So I may not be dealing with Freescan B.S. Anymore & I would not Recommend them because there is No Control, Oversite or Trust on their forums! By Changing & Mess'n with "My"question seeking help with the use of "Their" program. As I'm sure you'll agree it's Definitely not worth wasting mine or anyone's time, effort or your online security there.

Frank, based on the information you've posted, it looks like you are trying to enter this as a P-25 trunked system ("System Type").

It is not a trunked system, it is conventional. There would be no "Talk Group" needed, just the frequency, NAC ("113"), and a name if you want to give it an alpha tag.

Good luck!

- Chris

Chris,Thanks for your Help & that Info. I didn't use the FreeScan prog. But did it manually after all . I used what uniden calls their "P25 one frequency trunk" entry option which as you know is not a trunked sys. but rather a conventional sys. in the digital voice mode.(if it wasn't confusing enough for me) Earlier I found this link (below) & it helped me to understand more about it. (long way to go thou, for me lol) Particularly Jim202's comment on 7-14-2010 was of great help. Thanks Again for your assistance Chris in helping me gain more knowledge on this Scanner's operation. P.S. You can't even order a user's manual of this unit from uniden, they recommend the "Easier to read online manual " to learn it's operation.(sad but true, I tried (2) days ago. It seems they can't write their own manual...lol)

Curious as to whether or not Southington went full-time encrypted, and who got the contract. They used to occasionally run DES-XL on their old analog system.

Presently no encryption, But it may be in the future. Contract was with Goosetown Communications : Here's the link for the newspaper report of their 2 million $ digital upgrade.
