Uniden will be adding this upgrade to their scanners for an additional fee I would imagine.

Doubtful. Their scanners are not rated to work at 3.5 Ghz -- however, they will sell you the STD-3500 scanner for 3500 USD and it'll have exactly 3500ms of battery life.
