As a long time scanner hobbyist I found this new type of scanner interesting. Apparently it has not been approved by the FCC yet.

MSRP $699 OUCH! Paid sw upgrades may be required? Double ouch!

If they make one pay for upgrades that another brand offers for free then just change their name to Bait and Switch or Hooker radio.

I purchased mine from HRO last week and it does work quite well with P25 Phase 1/2 systems -- even with the reported LSM troubles. The scanner software is similar to the 436HP but it's physically a bit different. Also Uniden has made significant enhancements in the software. I'll offer a full review in another month or so when I have more time on the scanner.

Here's a brief report:

PROS: Excellent audio decode. Speaker is higher quality -- not as tinny as other Japanese speakers. Customizable display for conventional or trunking. Fully sealed membrane keypad. Responsive technical support.

CONS: Antenna socket has collar design for 'waterproofing' the scanner which interferes with 3rd party SMA antennas. Most antennas will need an adapter or modification of antenna or scanner body. Price + Paid Upgrades. Battery performance is poor. (Uniden is sending new larger batteries to all registered owners later this year at no cost.)

TBD: NXDN performance seems hit or miss. DMR seems OK so far.

FYI, the final price was <cost of scanner> + $60 for DMR + $30 for NXDN upgrades. No idea how much the ProVoice upgrade is... as I don't care about ProVoice.
