Indeed. However, I know a number of home mechanics who bought really cherry examples but with blown up motors of the Olds Diesels, bought a good used gas engine which was the appropriate match for the car and had a solid car for significantly less than the Blue Book price for a similar car. They worked on 'em for a couple of hours after work for about two weeks and they were good to go.

Now, I don't know if the same thing is possible with scanners....
