Is anyone talking or still using the CEMnet State system or is it all for show ?

An old by gone analog system from the cold war days?

Is this still a valid radio system ?

Will anyone use the frequencies after the big 7.5 earthquake?

NOT trying to be a smart ass. I would like to have some feedback from some of the head radio techs about the system.

I can see some improvements that might be made.

1) A Regional Repeater for the "Metro" Seattle - Tacoma - Everett area. 45.60 R / 44.90 in. Channels are clear both in US and Canada.
Repeater on Gold Mtn, Squak Mtn, Grass Mtn or Capital Peak.

Yes they are all over the place. They usually do their checks on one Wednesday a month. Ill ask.

Jefferson has base at EOC as well as alternate EOC, vehicle and trailer mounted radios.

I see a lowband antenna at Cencom in Kitsap as well.

Yes it is up and working and it is used for regional disasters. Its probably not noticed so much in the western half of the state where existing communications is more than ample. There are still parts of the state that have communication single/dual points of failure due to geographic isolation.

Thanks for the replys. Over 51% of the States population lives within the 3 county "metro" Seattle - Tacoma - Everett area.
A major disaster or earthquake would "over-load" the existing 3 low band channels. A new "Metro" area duplex pair could save some lives.

In Thurston county, at least once a week, I'll hear Dept. of Ecology on Cemnet 2 (45.36MHz) Usually just reporting that they're at their main building (300 Desmond Dr) and are available via cell if needed.

I keep all 3 in my scanners and never hear any action up here in the northwest corner of the state.

You must have missed the one a few years back when the gas pipeline exploded in Bellingham.

Mike, as I am typing this, 45.36, 127.3 PL is coming in loud and clear in the Portland area with the weekly test of the low band system.

Thanks Chris. Has anyone been able to hear one of the 3 low band WSP / CEMNET channels testing ? 45.74, 45.78 or 45.86.
These freqs are also part of the system - but licensed to the WSP. Only 7 stations licensed on these channels. Anyone that hears one of the WSP stations gets two gold stars.
