...to vendor-imposed obsolescence of proprietary systems for the sake of increasing their revenue at taxpayer expense:

P.S. Consider saying yes to open standard systems which are truly interoperable across hardware of different vendors. It might save you millions in the long run.

King County has already raised property taxes 10x in the past few years. It's got to stop.

ok, I get the obsolescence argument, but "built to serve a smaller area?" huh? did king county grow geographically?

The current system was designed to serve a smaller population over a smaller area when it went online.

What they're trying to say is sprawl. Look at what Covington looked like 20 years ago. Or Sammamish. Or Carnation. As Seattle has screwed everything up over the last few decades and Amazon, Google etc have moved in, everyone else has moved outwards, thus increasing needs for coverage. What may have been an acceptable dead spot/coverage gap in 1995 or so in the Frank-9 area is now a massive subdivision (probably replete with a politically-mandated 10% Section-8 housing area and all it's attendant DV calls).

I was looking forward to keeping the analog system forever.

Dori Monson had a pretty good rant about this today. Not the radio system so much but circumstances around funding and paid leave.

Rant starts about 1:25.
