If they go from encryption to non-encrypted digital voice, it won’t make any difference as the digital data errors would remain the same. If they go from encryption to analog, that may help. If it’s about interoperability, that’s poor planning on the person or group that made the radio template. Most the 800 radios in the Puget Sound (SERS, KC, POS, BOEING, EPSCA, South Sound 911 and others) all have ICALL, ITAC and interoperability TGs. .. Then the dispatchers have the ability to patch one TG from one TRS to another TG on the other TRS. It seems like they are commanding this as a knee jerk reaction as they may not fully understand what cause this issue. Then again it all could have to do that they don’t have any repeaters in the tunnels so everything I said above and their demands won’t solve the issue. The news article is very vague so it could just be about anything...

I was corrected about this by I believe Rich and a couple others I work with. There is a bit of a difference due to missed key transmissions ect. Those who know can correct me if Im wrong.

My belief at the very least is command to local working units should be simplex analog.

I forgot to answer the subject at hand...Maybe they have encryption to resolve a liability issue to avoided lawsuits for HIPPA violations.

From my understand of the P25 spec, it looks like the algorithm ID is in the header and the header is repeated every 360ms.

Look at page 25

If your getting multipath or weak signal p25 voice can still make it through but the encryption algorithm would have to be perfect. at every third of a second it would have to be something that is an ongoing signal issue at the time. My theory anyways.

Actually, as I recall, the reason DC went to ENC on the fireground was due to someone assuming that fire calls needed to be hidden from the crime world.
