Good Afternoon: This subject is probably old news. It takes a while for Technology News to get down here to Hooterville. Every concern has always used VHF frequencies down here in the Rural South GA area. Lately,................... I am finding ALWAYS is a Deep Subject. I have Been using Scanners for 40 years. The fanciest scanner anyone has is the Bearcat BC898T. This includes one within my Radio Shack in the Barn. Our local Sheriff's used 155.5950, as well as 911 dispatch, EMT and everything concerned in the Tattnall County Level. Recently everything went (No Traffic on the Airwaves) and we found out about this 4000 Frequency band that is included below. Would someone suggest a good Book on what all of this is about ????? What is this 4950 MHZ Frequency and is it included within the 800 MHZ band or is it above 800 ????? Is this getting into Digital and what type of scanner works in this Frequency Band ????? What is the FX Type described in the chart below mean ????? Any links on what these types are and description would be appreciated. All of our other County Sheriffs, Police, and 911 Dispatch's are working as usual. At least within the 35 mile radius my Base Antenna's usually work. Any help anyone can be,.................. for this Poor Old Dirt Farmer will be appreciated. Tattnall county is still on VHF but has moved to a digital NXDN system. I'm not aware of any consumer scanner designed to receive NXDN. The 4900mhz frequency licenses are for data communications. http://www.rrmediagroup.com/onlyonline.cfm?OnlyOnlineID=373 |

Getting an used NXDN radio would be a good option. They go for ~$350 on eBay. It doesn't cost as much as an high-end communications receiver and more portable than DSD+... I don't know if it is anything like programing a MOTOTRBO/DMR radio where you have to do your homework or if it decodes (with no homework) like programing a P25 radio. Just an thought... |

Good Afternoon: Many Thanks for the replies. Well, it appears that we wont be listening to Tattnall County Sheriff,.............. no time soon. This type of Technology included in such a dirt poor County,...........and in a underpopulated rural area is past me. As I said, Always is getting to be a deep subject. I will keep following the post about the Receiver not yet for Sale. As time goes on, maybe the price will go down. I will check out EBAY. Again Many Thanks for helping with the information. That new AOR only goes up to 1.3 Ghz so it wouldn't receive 4.95 Ghz anyway. My county uses 4.95 Ghz for data links between the Fire districts stations. (So they tell me) |

Their trunk system is VHF so no high range necessary, unless you want to listen to the data on the microwave links, which you wouldn't hear anyway unless you lived in a tree. I've seen the latest version of DSD+ decode NXDN trunking so it can be done. NXDN conventional decoding has been around for a while. |

DSD+ is a Windows application. Connect your discriminator tapped scanner or SDR to your PC's mic port and launch the application. |
