So. .. doing some casual scanning. .. and my scanner stops on what I thought was a birdie.

Well... not so much. . It's the audio output from my cellphone. .

no bt.. no WiFi. ... but the audio from my phone is coming across my scanner. No mic audio, only audio output.

Will post video shortly.

What frequency is it showing up on your scanner?

Which scanner is it and does it happen on other scanners?

How close to the scanner does your phone have to be to do this?

I had something similar in the dark ages with a particular VCR. Back when you could use the VCR's tuner as your main CATV tuner, I could tune to any channel and hear the audio output from that channel on X frequency. I can't recall the frequency off hand. The cool thing was that only the VCR had to be powered on. The TV didn't. So you could hear audio even if the TV was off.

As Jim suggested the range was quite limited. I want to say a < 50ft or so to have remotely decent audio quality.

another wierd thing....

it's more about angle than distance.... laying flat 3 feet away is good but right next to it or on top of it...in just about any position..and nothing....

It must be getting into the IF section of the BCT15X.

In our van if it is turned on it locks up 150.955 on all my scanners.

That is probably the ECM doing that.

It is quite clearly a bug.

Likely Federal due to your limited ability to receive it on consumer grade electronics. Most likely not MIL, as you would not be able to pick it up at all.

Obviously the usual solutions, foil wrapping, use of "burner phones", etc would be in order.

Let us know how it qoeks out, if you can...
