Sean's New Secret Job? New levy to pay for it on the. November 2014 ballot.

Puget Sound Emergency Radio Network (PSERN) Project

This project is intended to provide King County with a new, state-of-the-art, digital radio system that provides better interoperability and more efficient use of radio spectrum.

Background

The current emergency services radio system in King County is rapidly becoming obsolete. Now approaching 20 years old, the manufacturer of the County’s current equipment is planning to end support in the very near future, which means spares and repair parts will no longer be available. In addition, the current system is analog, not digital, which is an inefficient use of scarce radio spectrum.

Present-day radio systems are very much like computers, and almost 20 years running on the same system is a long time. The current system also has issues of interoperability with other radio systems. Interoperability has been a key focus of Federal Government efforts in the wake of the September 2001 terrorist attacks, where first responders were hampered in their efforts to communicate with each other due to incompatible radio systems.

In Washington State, Pierce County has already started the work to switch to a new digital radio system. Other counties in western Washington, including neighboring Snohomish County, are looking to upgrade their emergency services radio systems in the near future. King County risks being left behind as other jurisdictions move forward with modernization plans for their radio systems.

I only counted 6 incorrect statements in the description, but we all know truth doesn't matter when trying to fleece the taxpayers. Almost looks as if a radio equipment manufacturer wrote it up for them.

Hopefully if levy passes they wont use Encryption on the system to say thank you. Be good question to find out.

It would be a waste of taxpayer dollars to have ANY non-encrypted talkgroups.
