Any trick to get it to accept a $F7E?
The $ seems to get lost.

Yeah I think that is by design. The software doesn't need it.

Does the scanner end up with the correct value?

It drops the '$'.
I also entered 'SRCH' with no results, but I haven't spent a lot of time yet with it.

I don't expect perfect from a product with 'free' in it's name,.

And from the 'That's Obvious' department:
I don't want to field program it..

I have had decent results when looking for help in the FreeSCAN forums. Often the author of the software will chime in.

My Win7 box doesn't display FreeScan correctly.
Anyone else have this issue?

Nope. Works fine for me.

That typically happens when the application does not understand the resolution the video card / monitor is using?
As a test, try a different screen resolution.

You using an odd screen resolution size? Or perhaps some type of scaling?

Fixed.
Issue was previous owner had display set to 'enlarge 125%'.
FreeSCAN displays correctly at the 100% setting.

Yeah I thought that may have been it. The size of the font in your picture was much larger than what I am use to seeing.

FWIT. I have done several Win 7 installs where for some reason that value was set for 125% by default.

Was curious if it would have the same issue on my laptop when set to 125%. And it does.

Scaling has always been an issue no matter the OS.

Since this thread is basically resolved I'm going to hijack it.

Today I was trying to read Mark's scanner (not this Mark but this Mark). I've never used FreeSCAN before. Tried reading Mark's radio and despite having selected the correct (only) COM port the radio wouldn't read. My old standby, bcTool, read it just fine.

With bcTool you have to connect to the scanner before you can hit download. Didn't see a download button in FreeSCAN; what was I doing wrong? Full disclosure: I have since uninstalled Freescan

Odd.
The icon is an HT with an arrow.

I since knocked the screen back to 125% so I can actually read it.
I don't know if I can put one at 100% and the other at 125%.

Looks like FreeSCAN is Uniden only?

Any suggestions for GRE?

Did you have the optional cc output enabled? It won't read if that's turned on...

EDIT: I meant to say if it was in the "extended" mode, it will not read on FreeSCAN.
